When considering whether to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure, one of the first questions many potential patients ask is: what will this cost me? The cost of a rhinoplasty procedure can vary, depending on the complexity of the case, the reputation and experience of the plastic surgeon, and geographic differences. Established surgeons with extensive rhinoplasty experience tend to be more expensive because they understand the large amount of time and effort that is required for an excellent result.

Before giving an estimate, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Morin spends approximately one hour with each potential patient to discuss in detail all aspects of the surgery. During the initial consultation, he carefully reviews the individual’s medical and surgical history (including information about any prior nose surgery), evaluates the facial anatomy, and discusses the patient’s unique aesthetic goals. He also allows a significant amount of time for questions. Based on his assessment, he can then determine an exact cost.

Services Included in the Total Cost of Rhinoplasty

In general, the approximate cost of a rhinoplasty procedure with Dr. Morin ranges from $9,000 to $15,000. The total cost of a rhinoplasty includes all phases of the procedure, from consultation to surgery to follow up visits. When getting an estimation for a nose surgery, Dr. Morin’s patient coordinator will give you a breakdown of all of the costs involved. In general, they include:

  • Surgeon’s fee (consultation, surgery, and post-op follow up care)
  • Anesthesia fee
  • Surgical facility fee and related expenses

What Affects the Cost?

A number of factors can affect the cost of surgery. Revision rhinoplasty procedures are significantly more complicated and time consuming and usually require special surgical skills. State-of-the-art techniques, such as ultrasound rhinoplasty, can also add to the costs. Another influence on the cost is the amount of time needed to complete the surgery.

Dr. Morin determines which rhinoplasty technique to use on a case-by-case basis, recommending a surgical plan that will yield the best results for the patient. His primary concern is to provide the best care and the best aesthetic result possible. Dr. Morin spends an extensive amount of time with his patients in order to ensure that he understands their goals. He is never in a rush when it comes to patient care.

Insurance and Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is usually considered elective cosmetic surgery and, therefore, is not generally covered by insurance. However, in some cases nose surgery may involve a functional correction. If there has been trauma to the nose resulting from an accident, or if there is severe nasal airway obstruction, insurance may cover a portion of the costs for a reconstructive procedure.

Some patients request to combine a rhinoplasty with a septoplasty, a procedure designed to address a deviated septum. By combining a cosmetic procedure (rhinoplasty) with a functional procedure (septoplasty), it may be possible to offset some costs depending on medical circumstances and insurance coverage.
