BOTOX® Cosmetic and Soft Tissue Fillers

When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these actions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines often make you look older, sad, angry or tired. The combination of Botox and dermal fillers can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, but they can also erase the lines you have at rest. You will therefore look younger and more refreshed.

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved and safe for use by most patients. Many of the fillers are made from substances found naturally in the body, or synthetically made to mimic natural substances. Fillers are generally injected into or just beneath the skin of the targeted area in order to restore volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At Dr. Morin’s office, we use a combination of Botox and several different dermal fillers in order to provide the best possible result based on an individual’s needs.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

The injection of Botox is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States. It is used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles in a minimally invasive way. These injections are made from botulinum toxin A, an FDA approved agent that blocks the nerve to muscle communication that is responsible for creating wrinkles. When used correctly, this results in a younger and more refreshed appearance.

After a treatment, the appearance of your wrinkles will begin to fade within 24 to 48 hours. The full result, however, will only be seen after approximately five days. Most patients achieve their desired results after just one injection, although additional treatment sessions may be required in the future. The result of Botox injections can last up to approximately four months.

Juvéderm Injectable Gel is a safe, effective gel that restores volume to the skin and smoothes away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm gel is made of hyaluronic acid and has a smooth consistency, allowing for easy injections and instant, natural looking results. There is no pre-testing necessary with this product.

An injectable anesthetic has recently been added to Juvéderm® in order to numb the treatment area and minimize any potential discomfort. The results of this filler are visible right away and can last up to a year.

Restylane is an FDA-approved dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid that restores volume to the skin, lifting and smoothing out wrinkles and other fine lines. This procedure is most commonly used to treat the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds. It can also be used to add volume and shape to the lips.

Since Restylane is made from a natural substance found in the body, no pre-testing is required. Restylane produces results that last for several months through its ability to bind with water and remain in the skin. The results of this procedure are visible immediately.

Radiesse is a synthetic injectable filler that has been approved by the FDA to reduce wrinkles, folds and creases around the nose and mouth by stimulating the natural production of collagen in the skin. This product is made of microspheres composed of calcium hydroxylapatite within a water-based gel and is made from minerals similar to what makes up our bones. Radiesse can be injected directly into the skin without pre-testing.

Radiesse is most effective in reducing the appearance of smile lines, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and other wrinkles around the nose and mouth. The results of this procedure are visible immediately after the injection and can last up to a year. With continued treatment, patients often require fewer and fewer injections.

Sculptra is an injectable filler that restores facial fat lost by the effects of lipoatrophy, including sunken cheeks, hollow eyes and other indentations. This filler is injected below the surface of the skin in the areas of fat loss. The Sculptra injection consists of an alpha hydroxyl acid called poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. This product is safe, synthetic, biocompatible, biodegradable and long-lasting. No pre-testing is required for Sculptra treatments.
