Your satisfaction with your nose job is important. When performed correctly, the techniques used during primary rhinoplasty are personalized so as to create a result that best compliments each patient’s unique face. Sometimes, however, this goal is not fully attained in your initial cosmetic nose job surgery. Because of Dr. Morin’s rhinoplasty expertise, he often sees patients from all over the world, who are unhappy with the results they obtained from another surgeon. He initially advises them to wait one full year prior to any additional procedures, to make sure the shape of the nose stabilizes. At that point, he may recommend undergoing a revision rhinoplasty.

Revision rhinoplasty is more common than you may think. Patients often consult with surgeons who promise to create the perfect nose. The problem is, there is no such thing as the perfect nose. Often these unrealistic expectations are the result of photo morphing software including Photoshop. Such software can give patients unreasonable and unobtainable expectations because things that are possible on a computer screen are not always possible in the operating room. Other times, surgeons are simply not experienced enough with rhinoplasty to provide an excellent result. And finally, sometimes things happen during the healing phase that compromise the result. These factors can result in a dorsal hump of the nose that is not fully smooth, a tip that is still too wide or too flared, nasal asymmetry or deviation or a nose that appears overdone or fake. Whatever the reason, nose surgery imperfections do happen. Dr. Morin believes that if you are unhappy with the results of your nose job, there is absolutely no shame in considering a revision rhinoplasty to correct the things that may still bother you.

A revision rhinoplasty is more challenging than a primary nose job. Often there are anatomic deformities to correct and scar tissue that blocks the way. In addition, revision rhinoplasty is a reconstructive procedure that usually requires the use of structurally sound building materials. Often this means the use of a patient’s own rib cartilage. Dr. Morin will use your body’s own resources, for example rib cartilage, to create the proper form and function of your nose, while correcting any imperfections you and he identify as unwanted results of your previous procedure. Since revision rhinoplasty is vastly more complicated than the original surgery, it is extremely important to seek out a surgeon who performs these types of surgeries frequently. The level of skill and the ability to deal with the unique surgical limitations of this procedure make surgeon selection vitally important.
